Social Anthropologist; political and security consultant. Author of c. 300 publications on North Africa (specialising in Algeria, Sahara and Sahel). Books include: War in the Sahel. (forthcoming); Report on In Amenas: inquest cover-up and Western involvement in Algerian state crimes; The Dying Sahara: US Imperialism and Terror in Africa; The Dark Sahara: America’s War on Terror in Africa; The Sahara: Past, Present & Future (ed); The Lesser Gods of the Sahara; The Tuareg: People of Ahaggar; Sahara Man: Travelling with the Tuareg (2001). Fieldwork in Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mali, Niger and Mauritania (1960s & 1970s; 1999-present.
