Dr. Estella Carpi
Biography

Dr Estella Carpi is a Lecturer in Humanitarian Studies at University College London. In the past, she worked on Southern-led humanitarianism in the Department of Geography at UCL. She was also Humanitarian Affairs Advisor at Save the Children UK and Research Associate in the Bartlett Development Planning Unit (UCL), working on the urban-humanitarian nexus and refugee livelihoods in border areas. She received her PhD from the University of Sydney in Australia with a project on humanitarianism in Lebanon. After studying Arabic in Milan and Damascus (2002–2008), she worked in several academic and research institutions, such as the New York University of Abu Dhabi, Trends Research and Advisory (UAE), Lebanon Support, UN-Habitat Lebanon, the American University of Beirut, UNDP-Egypt (Cairo), and the International Development Research Centre (Cairo). She is an Adjunct Lecturer in Humanitarian Studies at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan. She is also a Global Young Academy member.
