Dr. Estella Carpi
Biography

Dr Estella Carpi is a Research Associate in the Migration Research Unit (Department of Geography) at University College London, where she works on Southern-led responses to displacement from Syria in Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan. Previously, she was Humanitarian Affairs Advisor at Save the Children UK and Research Associate in the Bartlett Development Planning Unit (UCL), working on the urban-humanitarian nexus and refugee livelihoods in border areas. She received her PhD from the University of Sydney in Australia with a project on humanitarianism in Lebanon. After studying Arabic in Milan and Damascus (2002–2008), she worked in several academic and research institutions, such as the New York University of Abu Dhabi, Trends Research and Advisory (UAE), Lebanon Support, UN-Habitat Lebanon, the American University of Beirut, UNDP-Egypt (Cairo), and the International Development Research Centre (Cairo). She is an Adjunct Lecturer in Humanitarian Studies at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan.
